Danish Dance Theatre (Denmark)

The largest contemporary dance company in Denmark was founded in 1981. Today, Danish Dance Theatre is one of the foremost contemporary dance companies and is composed of hand-picked dancers from all over the world. Since April 2018 Pontus Lidberg, an internationally acclaimed choreographer, joined the company and leads it as the Artistic Director. Multitalented Lidberg filmmaker, dancer, and of course choreographer, has been working with some of the foremost ballet and dance companies around the world, including New York City Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, Royal Swedish Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Le Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, Beijing Dance Theatre, and many others. The New York Times wrote that ‘Pontus Lidberg choreographs in loops and swirls.’

Siren is a new dance work for the stage by Pontus Lidberg that premiered in the summer of 2018. With its title taken from the Ancient Greek mythology, Siren is a choreographic exploration of our liquid, modern times. With a focus on movement, structure, and composition, Siren delves into the difficulties of human relationships, inherent challenges in communication, and the isolation that many feel in a social media-driven world. In his work Lidberg combines the classical arts with the modern and incorporates conceptual film projections, creating a visual meditation.
