One of the prominent figures who made significant contributions to the development of Azerbaijani musical culture is the distinguished tar player and People’s Artist Haji Mammadov. He was among the most brilliant representatives of our national performance tradition. His playing is regarded as a unique school in its own right, as he mastered the nuances of the art throughout his career and developed his own distinctive performance style.
A student of the artistic schools of legendary tar players such as Gurban Pirimov and Bahram Mansurov, Haji Mammadov accompanied many renowned khanandas — including Bulbul, Seyid Shushinski, Zulfu Adigozalov, Abulfat Aliyev, Rashid Behbudov, Shovkat Alakbarova, Yagub Mammadov, Rubaba Muradova, and Sara Gadirova — on the tar. His rich talent, fidelity to the classical style, and impressive improvisational skills captured the hearts of music lovers. This year marks the 105th anniversary of the unforgettable master’s .
