Morgenland Meets The Land of Fire
About event
For the past 20 years, the "Morgenland" festival organized in the German city of Osnabrück has been dedicated to the culture of the Near East. The festival tries to counter the stereotypes associated with this region and presents it in a more authentic environment. One of the main motivating factors of the festival was the "Morgenland Academy" designed for young musicians aged 14-20. Within the framework of a one-week music camp under the guidance of professional musicians, the participants learned about music different from European musical traditions. , they get acquainted with Arabic, Persian, Caucasian and Central Asian music based on mugham. The ensemble "Morgenland Youngsters" created by graduates of "Morgenland Academy" regularly organizes projects and concerts. In honor of the 20th anniversary of the festival, a mutual project consisting of this ensemble and young musicians of Azerbaijan and Turkey is being organized. The concert tour offers the participants a chance to strengthen their experience, exchange ideas with colleagues from other countries, and get acquainted with their music and culture. The project emphasizes the importance of cultural exchange based on respect for musical traditions and interest in diversity. Rehearsals and concerts are planned to be held in Baku, Istanbul and Osnabrück. Musicians from Osnabrück will visit Baku and Istanbul in the spring.
