Isolated
About event
The man starts losing right from the beginning. He would have thought the opposite, didn’t he have any fears. But… Fear draws him into a struggle, the struggle for existence. Man tries to preserve everything, to become immortal, to flow together with the eternity, if not physically, then spiritually. (otherwise understands the insignificance of his life) Does everyone try this?
Some isolate themselves when things go wrong, and they lose more and more. Maybe this is the way to enlightenment. I! Mine! Of course, there are many different ways. In the category “Isolated”, the films talk to us about the losses of man and the things he has preserved.
My Piece of the Earth
Director: Maka Gogaladze
Country: Georgia
Language: Georgian (Az and En subtitles)
Age limit: 0+
The author tells the story of how the film was created: “Soon after my house burnt down, my neighbourhood in Tbilisi has gone through radical changes. The once familiar spaces suddenly disappeared, having taken pieces of my personal history with them. My memories of those places soon faded, leaving me in a state of alienation and silence. So, I took the camera and went around what remained of my home and the old spaces in my neighbourhood - all that was left of my childhood. In this journey, I use filming as a way to restore my memories, to reconstruct the past and to regain my place in it. My story is captured through different places, faces, and spaces.”
Then Comes the Evening
Director: Maja Novaković
Country: Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Language: Serbian (Az and En subtitles)
Age limit: 0+
The documentary depicts bittersweet life of two grannies living isolated on the hills of Eastern Bosnia. Nature is the entity with which grannies speak, listen to and respect. The film emphasizes the intangible cultural heritage, through the presentation of chants and rituals for taming the adverse weather, hail, and storm. It reflects the simplicity and purity of their way of life, as well as their painstaking work. The action of the film is the everyday life in the countryside, which shows the caring and intimacy of the grannies, both in their mutual relations and in the relationship with nature. The poetic tone of the frames relies on references from genre scenes of realism paintings.
