Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex

Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex is one of the architectural landmarks of Azerbaijan’s capital. Construction began in 1977 on Tbilisi Avenue in Baku, and the complex was officially opened in November 1990.

The complex features a main arena with a seating capacity of 7,800 spectators and a training facility with three halls designed for ice hockey, figure skating, basketball, rhythmic gymnastics, and bodybuilding.

The main arena is used for competitions in 16 different sports, as well as concerts, film screenings, circus performances, ice ballets, trade and industrial exhibitions, large-scale forums, and various theatrical events.

Three sports halls operate daily within the complex. One has hosted rhythmic gymnastics training for over 23 years, another functions as a modern fitness center, and the third is used for winter sports, mini-football, and basketball.

The venue has hosted three stages of the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup, two European Championships, and one World Championship. More than 200 international exhibitions and numerous concerts featuring local and international performers have also taken place here.

In March 2004, by decree of President Ilham Aliyev, the complex was named after Heydar Aliyev. In 2009, it was recognized as the best sports facility of the year by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
