The exhibition “Land of Carpets”
The exhibition “Land of Carpets” brings together the works of Latif Karimov, an eminent scholar and People’s Artist; contemporary artists Madina and Narmin Najaf; carpet artist Yashar Malfouzi; and a group of digital artists. It presents the carpet as a living artistic space shaped by history and craftsmanship, while continually evolving through new interpretations, materials, and technologies.
The central idea of the exhibition “Land of Carpets” is that tradition cannot remain unchanged or static. It preserves its continuity through the interaction of traditional knowledge with individual artistic creativity, as well as through reinterpretation and transformation.
Throughout the exhibition, the carpet is presented as a space of interaction between artist and craftsperson, painting and material, historical examples and contemporary interpretations, and handmade craftsmanship and technology.
Each transformation offers a new way of approaching the preceding stage of artistic creation. Colours change, surfaces acquire different textures, the artistic expressiveness of painting is embodied in woven loops, historical compositions are reinterpreted by contemporary masters, and traditional motifs come to life in the digital space.
