CHARACTERS Theatre and Fluxus Space art gallery present the performance “Omid, the Last White Crane”, staged after the play of the same name by Ismail Iman.

The performance is based on the true story of Omid, the last known representative of the western population of the Siberian crane. Listed in the Red Book of Azerbaijan, Omid flew alone for more than 15 years from Siberia to the southern shores of the Caspian Sea. However, for the last two years he has not been seen either at his wintering site or along the migration route. There is a high probability that Omid has died, and with him the path of an entire subspecies may have come to an end.

“Omid, the Last White Crane” is a story about the last crane and a disappearing route, told in a poetic language. Through live music, the director Mikayil Merdinli creates a space where a bird becomes a mythical being, and its journey turns into something that must not – and cannot – vanish. Because Omid is not only a bird. Omid is Hope.
