The events take place at the beginning of the 20th century in one of the districts of the Caucasus region, in the house of a wealthy bey named Bechir. Very strict laws based on national customs and traditions prevail in this household. The events in the play unfold dynamically, one replacing another. Throughout the storyline, the unhappiness, helplessness, and despair of every family member are clearly depicted. We witness how both sons, Irma, the bride, and even the midwife become captives of Bechir’s ruthless, cruel, and tyrannical rules.

The greed for wealth, the desire for power, egoism, and broken destinies form the main thematic line of the play.
In the performance, the destruction of such noble feelings as pure love, loyalty, and devotion delivers a message to the audience: Human being, no wealth can replace true happiness. Strive to learn how to be happy!
