One of the most beloved plays in world theatre, The Marriage of Figaro by Pierre Beaumarchais, was first staged in Azerbaijan in 1940 at the Academic National Drama Theatre. After 83 years, the Azerbaijan State National Theatre for Young Spectators returns to this renowned work, including it in its 2024 repertoire.
This comedy with an engaging plot centers on Count Almaviva, who looks at all women around him with lustful desire and becomes infatuated with Susanna, attempting to prevent her wedding to Figaro.
The conflict between the Count and Figaro is rich in comic moments. Susanna, Figaro, and the Countess set a trap for the wayward Count. Meanwhile, the Count devises his own scheme, believing he can expose the Countess’s supposed infidelity. However, his plan fails, and when he sees Susanna emerging from behind the door, he is left embarrassed.
Figaro, the servant of Count Almaviva, and his fiancée prove to be wiser and more perceptive than their masters, allowing them to skillfully overcome every obstacle.
In the final act, the Count waits in his garden for a secret meeting with Susanna. Disguised in Susanna’s clothes, the Countess goes to meet him. Realizing that the woman before him is actually his wife, the Count is confused and asks for her forgiveness, which the Countess grants. Meanwhile, Susanna, dressed as the Countess, meets Figaro. Though initially troubled, Figaro recognizes his beloved, regrets his doubts, and repents for his mistaken suspicions.
Staged in a farcical style, the performance features music by renowned composers Mozart and Rossini.
Presented as a playful theatrical game, the production encourages loyalty and faithfulness in love and family relationships.
