The play was written by Chekhov in the fall of 1903, shortly before his death. It was conceived by the writer as a comedy, reflecting the image of the then Russia in the era of turning point. The Cherry Orchard is a symbol of the passing of time, a prototype of the idle estate life of the nobles. This comedy with a touch of tragedy talks about the carelessness of landowners, their reluctance to change anything and change themselves, which in the end leads to collapse - the cutting down of the cherry orchard. The new owner does not need the garden, he does not perceive its beauty and spirituality and mercilessly destroys it for commercial purposes. Lopakhin is the prototype of a new era that replaced Ranevskaya, Gaev and other representatives of the nobility of the late 19th century.
