The maid sisters Solange and Claire are trying to overcome their nature. They are tired of serving their mistress and do not want to spend their lives in the kitchen. Not only do the sisters hate their jobs, Mistress Madame, but they hate each other as well. Hating their nature, the maids try to overcome themselves by playing Madame or each other. They are willing to play anyone as long as they are not themselves. Their main dream is to reckon with Madame, but even if they play off each other's deaths, the sisters are unable to see it through. It seems to them that only by killing their mistress will they be free and live happily ever after. Realizing that the dream is unrealizable, one of the maids - Claire - decides to drink the poisoned drink prepared for Madame herself and dies, knowing that her sister will be blamed for her death.
