Lankaran History and Ethnography Museum

About event

The Lankaran History and Ethnography Museum is located in the house of Mir Ahmad Khan, built in 1913, and has been operating as a museum since 1991. The three-storey building with 12 rooms holds over 8,000 exhibits reflecting the ancient history, culture, and present life of Lankaran. The exhibition is divided into six sections: nature, ancient period, medieval history, modern period, contemporary period (1917–1945), and present day (from 1945 onwards). The collection includes archaeology, ethnography, numismatics, folk applied arts, and documents of prominent figures.

Between 2013 and 2015, the museum underwent major restoration, after which the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, visited the renewed site.

The founder of the museum is Mirza Agali Aliyev — an educator, poet, and journalist, recognized as one of Azerbaijan’s first museologists, a friend of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, and teacher of General Hazi Aslanov.
