This story takes place in Bulgaria. To tell his four twin sons apart, a father buys four hats of different colors at the market. Their names are chosen accordingly, matching the colors of the hats. All four twins fall in love with a girl named Bonka. Each of them visits Bonka’s mother, Aunt Yelena, praising himself as the best suitor. However, Aunt Yelena values not only outward beauty, but also agility, diligence, financial means, and above all, pure love.

Unable to choose the true candidate, they consult the twins’ father, Peter Agha, and decide that the brothers should travel abroad and bring back bracelets. Whoever returns with the most valuable and heaviest bracelet will win Bonka’s hand. As she sees the twins off, Bonka gives each of them a flower of a different color and makes a pact: until the young men return, she must prepare three chests of dowry through her own hard work.

Among the twins, Gulpapak proves worthy of the girl’s love — pure-hearted and faithful to his promise. He carefully protects the flower Bonka gave him, cultivates flowers, and through his own labor buys a bracelet for his beloved. In the end, Bonka is given to him. Loyalty, hard work, and honesty form the core message of the play.
