The exhibition “May Your Grey-White Horse Never Stumble as You Ride” features more than 50 works by contemporary Azerbaijani and Turkish artists and sculptors exploring the theme of the warhorse. The exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, graphic works, and examples of decorative and applied arts. The project’s main aim is to present the image of the warhorse, which holds a special place in the historical memory and cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani people, through new artistic interpretations.
Inspired by the rock carvings of Gobustan and Gamigaya, our stone chronicles, miniature art, and traditions of monumental painting, the works also reflect glorious chapters in Azerbaijan’s history and its prominent historical figures.
The exhibition presents historical weapons dating from the 17th to the 21st centuries, along with replicas, from the private collections of collectors Yusif Bagirzade and Ilgar Hasan Alizade. The exhibits include weapons used by Prince Abbas Mirza Qajar, Shah Abbas II, a governor of one of the provinces of the Safavid state, and the khans of Shaki. The collection also features replicas of weapons associated with Sultan Uzun Hasan and Shah Ismail Khatai, as well as traditionally crafted replicas of the Zulfiqar sword and the shashka sabre. One of the exhibition’s highlights is a traditional-style chest decorated with scenes depicting warhorses.
