About event

For the first time on stage – a hybrid performance!

You will witness two works at the same time. “The Quest,” inspired by Fariduddin Attar’s The Conference of the Birds, a cornerstone of Sufi philosophy, and Albert Camus’ The Misunderstanding, one of the foundations of existential thought, presents both stories in a parallel narrative.

“The Quest” is more than just a play. It is the story of those who seek truth and embark on a spiritual journey. It begins as all the birds on Earth search for a king. Their king, Simurgh, lives beyond Mount Qaf. To reach him, they must pass through seven grueling valleys. Most give up before even beginning. Those who turn back find themselves in the absurd world of Camus. In this world, a mother and daughter run an inn where strange events unfold — they murder guests in hopes of reaching their "sunny place." But when a new guest, Jean, arrives, everything changes. The mother tries to convince her daughter to stop the killings. Yet Martha refuses to give up on her dreams and her search for meaning. These two distinct narratives weave together into a profound and unforgettable tapestry.

The play is written and directed by Nihad Ghulamzade. It features People's Artist Mehriban Zeki and actors Samaya Agayarova, Elshan Askerov, Elsever Rahimov, Lala Suleymanova, Elvin Mirzayev, Farid Ismayilov, Aydan Agazade, Gulnar Elfidatly, Saadat Abbasova, Sarxan Najiev, and Behram Rahimli.
