The play “Those Who Will Not See the Morning” (“Mother”) by Czech playwright Karel Čapek, produced by the “ArtStudiya” Theatre Studio of the Azerbaijan State National Youth Theatre, portrays the struggle against fascism and the deep moral trauma and suffering brought about by war.
The characters of the play do not see tomorrow, as war devours every living being like a dragon.
The production depicts how war brings devastation to the family of Mother Dolores and, through this family’s fate, reflects the tragedy of all humanity.
After losing her husband and then all of her children, the mother sends her last remaining son, the youngest, Toni, to defend the homeland.
Through this act, she declares that even if children become martyrs, the homeland must live on, so that no mother will have to shed tears in the future.
The greatest strength of the play lies in its powerful dramatic intensity and its universal, humanistic message. With this performance, we say “No” to war.
