Mikhail Lermontov's "Masquerade." The well-known story of Nina and Arbenin, which has been a classic since school, takes on a new meaning in the interpretation of director Alexander Sharovsky. Arbenin, having poisoned his wife, faces divine retribution. Revenge catches up with him unexpectedly. But before that, he has to go through all the circles of hell, experiencing everything he once, as a fortunate favorite of fate, casually inflicted on those around him: acquaintances and strangers. His soul gradually descends into criminal thoughts and passions. And when Arbenin, as he thinks, is justly punished, retribution comes upon him. Punishment falls on his head by the will of the heavens, but at the hands of the one Arbenin had forgotten. What evil did Arbenin once inflict? On whom and how? And why did retribution come now? The premiere of the play "Masquerade" (director - Alexander Sharovsky) took place on November 24th at the Azerbaijan State Russian Drama Theater named after Samed Vurgun. The production is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov.
