The play revolves around the greed of Richard III, who is deprived of a conscience and doesn’t hesitate to kill even his loved ones for the throne, earning a reputation for his crimes. He appears on stage sometimes like Stalin, sometimes like Hitler.
The people Richard has destroyed appear before him. They plead with him to put down his sword and stop spilling innocent blood. To those urging him to be conscientious, Richard replies, “Conscience is nonsense!” He even exclaims, “If not to Heaven, then forward to Hell!” leading people to their deaths.
This bloodshed is eventually stopped by a hero, wise, calm, and chivalrous man from among the people, Richmond. He restores justice throughout the country and becomes the savior of his people.
