Sərgüzəşti-vəziri-xani-Lənkəran

About event

The founder of Azerbaijani dramaturgy, M.F. Akhundov, laid the foundation of our national theater in 1873 with the comedy "Sergüzəšti-vəziri-xani-Lənkəran."

The play sharply criticizes the governing system that prevailed in the 18th century through satire.

From the events, it becomes clear that the vizier Mirza Habib, in order to secure his position, intends to marry his sister Nisa to the Khan. However, Nisa loves the Khan's nephew, Teymur Agha.

The various tricks that the two wives, mother-in-law Pəri khanum, and sister-in-law Nisa khanum come up with to escape difficult situations put the foolish Mirza Habib in a ridiculous position. Compared to the smart and prudent Azerbaijani women, the stupidity of the vizier and the Khan causes laughter. The play ends with a happy conclusion, as Teymur Agha becomes the Khan, replacing the Khan who drowned, and reunites with his beloved.

The moral conveyed by the play is that such events could happen not only in one southern city but also in any country where a khanate system of governance exists.
