Ramana Castle Museum is a monument of medieval defensive architecture located in the Ramana settlement of Baku. The castle was built in the 14th century by order of the Shirvanshahs. Some researchers, however, date its construction to the 12th century.
The inner courtyard of the castle measures 28 × 10 metres. The outer walls are reinforced with semicircular defensive towers positioned at the corners and along the walls. A square defensive tower is located above the entrance. Unlike circular keeps, the main tower of Ramana Castle is square in shape and consists of four storeys. This feature distinguishes it from other medieval castles in Azerbaijan.
