Gökhan Özen – a Turkish singer and a prominent representative of contemporary Turkish pop music. Born in Ankara, he began his musical education in the polyphonic children’s choir of the Ankara State Opera and Ballet. His 2000 debut album, “Özelsin”, launched his professional solo career, while “Duman Gözlüm” and “Civciv” introduced him to a much wider audience. Özen has written the lyrics and music for a large part of his repertoire and has also participated in arranging and producing his recordings. He received the Altın Kelebek Award for Best Newcomer in 2001, while “Aramazsan Arama” later earned recognition for its composition. His major albums include “Kalbim Seninle”, “Resimler ve Hayaller”, “Başka”, “Milyoner”, “Maske” and “Firardayım”. He has also written material for other Turkish performers, contributing to the wider pop catalogue as a songwriter. His distinctive sound combines romantic ballads, memorable choruses and contemporary electronic pop arrangements.
