On April 29, a musical evening titled “DSCH,” dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the world-renowned Dmitri Shostakovich, will take place at the Mugham Center. The program will feature the composer’s vocal cycles set to the poems of Sasha Chorny and Alexander Blok, as well as chamber-instrumental works, alongside chamber pieces by his students—prominent Azerbaijani composers Gara Garayev and Jovdat Hajiyev.
Together with the concert’s artistic director, BMA associate professor and pianist Yuliya Karimova, the soloists—Honored Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan Farida Mammadova (soprano), Umida Abasova (violin), and Georgiy Imanov (cello)—will invite the audience, in this Shostakovich year, on a journey into the coded world of the composer’s music, filled with contrasts, humor, tragedy, and inexhaustible energy.
