The building of the Shusha branch of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, constructed in the second half of the 19th century, is located in the Upper quarter of the city. The exhibition mainly displays the 18th – 20th centuries’ items. A total of 92 pile- and flat-woven carpets, carpet products, archaeological materials, national embroidery and costumes, jewellery and artistic metal samples are showcased here. These works of art make it possible to feel the spirit of the ancient Karabakh region, the lifestyle of the people including artisans who have lived and created here for centuries.

The Shusha branch of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum has been operating since 19 May, 1987. The housed exhibits were evacuated on 29 February, 1992, when the Karabakh lands were occupied by Armenia. Thus, 183 of the 246 exhibits in the collection of the Shusha branch were brought to Baku. During the occupation of the city, the branch continued operating in Baku within the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum.
