Jafar Jabbarly“Aydın”

“Aydın” tells the story of the tragedy of a young man with progressive ideas and a free spirit. The work holds an important place in Azerbaijani dramaturgy as an expression of new thinking and enlightenment ideals. The character of Aydın symbolizes a young man misunderstood by society yet fighting for truth.

Baku, which became a center of a powerful oil boom and wealth accumulation at the beginning of the century, reduces thousands like Aydın to nothing. He loses everything — his family, his love, his social standing, and his mental stability — becoming the “king of the destitute.” Despite enduring severe physical and psychological suffering, he does not lose his moral beauty or human purity. However, the environment in which he lives fails to understand him. Social pressure, spiritual loneliness, and inner conflicts shake Aydın deeply. He is torn between his ideals and reality and ultimately faces a tragic fate.

The stage production is directed by People’s Artist Firudin Maharramov.
