The first inclusive theater of Azerbaijan, ƏSA Theatre, presents the dramatic comedy “The Oath of the Miser”, based on the play “The Miser” by the great French playwright Molière.
The events of Molière’s “The Miser” take place in medieval Paris. The wealthy and miserly Harpagon has two children: Cléante and Élise.
Cléante wants to marry a poor girl named Mariane, who lives with her mother, while Élise is in love with her father’s servant Valère.
Unaware of his children’s love stories, Harpagon plans to marry them off to wealthy partners. Meanwhile, he himself, through the cunning Frosine, wants to take Mariane—his son’s beloved—as his bride.
In ƏSA Theatre’s adaptation “The Oath of the Miser,” the classic play is reinterpreted from a completely new perspective. The focus is not on Harpagon’s unpleasant traits or his greed, but on exposing relationships built on personal gain.
In the finale, the audience discovers the oath Harpagon made many years ago—a man everyone considered simply a miser.
