Actress Ilgara Tosova, while attempting to symbolize Gabriel García Márquez’s “Letter to the Colonel,” has, as the author of the stage adaptation, written a dramatic work that goes beyond her own dreams and aspirations.

The main character of the work is a Woman. She is always optimistic, always cheerful, and young. Suddenly, life confronts her with such trials that it seems as though her entire existence has been gathered into a crystal vase that could shatter at any moment. Despite her efforts to become an actress, she fails to achieve her dream. At a time when everything seems to have come to an end, her son is born. Together with her husband, a colonel, she enjoys the happy life of a wife and mother. However, this happiness does not last long. Her son dies in an accident. Physically isolated, the woman becomes spiritually isolated as well. Now even her beloved husband, the colonel, can no longer soothe her heart. This severe trial of life turns into profound psychological trauma for her.

The psychological drama “Letter to the Colonel,” written for a solo performer, is performed by the author herself.

The main message conveyed by the performance is that no material hardship can destroy a person. A person experiences emotional and psychological suffering when they become spiritually lonely. Mutual understanding, material and moral support, and inner richness can become a person’s salvation.
