“Belugin’s Marriage” is a comedy based on the play Женитьба Белугина — a witty and insightful story about how people deceive themselves about their true motives.

He is wealthy, kind, and hopelessly in love. She comes from a respectable family, has no money, and knows exactly what she wants from life. Alexander Ostrovsky and Nikolay Solovyov bring these two together and observe them with unmistakable delight.

Belugin is certain that he is in love. Elena is convinced that everything is under control. Both are right. Both are mistaken. The directors do not rush to judge the characters — instead, they allow them to speak for themselves, leaving the audience to decide who is more sympathetic. The result is funny, relatable, and strikingly accurate in showing where calculation ends and something genuine begins.
