Aygun Kazimova – an Azerbaijani singer who has played an important role in the development of the country’s pop music. Her professional stage career began after she won the Grand Prix at the Bakı Payızı-88 competition with “Yarım eşitsin məni”. She later became a prize-winner at an international competition in Jurmala in 1989 and at the Voice of Asia festival in Kazakhstan in 1992. During the 1990s, Kazimova developed her solo catalogue and stage identity, releasing one of her first albums, Sevgi Gülləri, in 1997. She received the title of Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan in 2002 and People’s Artist of Azerbaijan in 2008.
Throughout her career, she has combined pop, estrada and dance music with large-scale concerts, music videos and a continually evolving visual image. Major milestones include a solo concert at Moscow’s State Kremlin Palace in 2006, the international “Coffee from Colombia” collaboration with Snoop Dogg in 2013 and a 30th-anniversary concert at Baku Crystal Hall in 2017. In 2016, she received the DAF BAMA Music Award for Best Azerbaijani Female Artist. Later projects such as Duy and “S.U.S.” continued her work with electronic and club-oriented production.
