Faiq Aghayev – an Azerbaijani singer active in pop and estrada since the late 1980s. He began his professional career after receiving a first-degree diploma at the Bakı Payızı-88 competition. Further recognition followed at Qızıl Payız-89, Vitebsk-90, Yalta-92, the Klavdiya Shulzhenko International Retro Song Competition in Kharkiv in 1995 and the Golden Hit competition in Mogilev in 1996. In 1993, Aghayev graduated with honours in musical theatre acting from the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, an education that influenced his theatrical performance style and attention to stage production.
His debut album, Ola Bilməz, was released in 1995, followed by Səni Əvəz Eləmir, Vəfasızım, Minilliyin Sonu and Tam Məxfi. In 1998, he received the Humay award for his “10 il Sizinlə” concert programme, while in 1999 he was recognised for the “Dəşti” music video and named Singer of the Year at the Grand awards. Aghayev received the title of Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan in 2000 and People’s Artist of Azerbaijan on 17 September 2008. His five consecutive solo concerts at the Heydar Aliyev Palace in 2007 became an important milestone in his live career. He has also served as a coach on The Voice Azerbaijan and as a member of Azerbaijan’s national Eurovision jury.
