This comedy by Mirza Fatali Akhundzadeh — one of the founders of Azerbaijani theater — is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the publication of his work “The Story of the Greedy Robber.” The humorous situations the characters find themselves in create a joyful and lively atmosphere for the audience.

Tarverdi, a coward from a wealthy family; Perzad, the beautiful girl he wishes to marry; Bayram, who loves her deeply and is ready to die for her; the cunning Zalxa and her husband Namaz, always scheming for profit; the traveler Franz Fox and his companion Maria Adamovna — all end up in hilariously tangled situations.

Two special characters — a Bear and a Monkey — add color and symbolism to the play. Even in the chaos of human deceit and trickery, these animals play their own roles.
With its lively music, vivid costumes, and clever humor, the performance not only entertains but also invites the audience to reflect on the author’s timeless ideas.
