“Hekayati-Khersi-Guldurbasan” is an eccentric comedy by Mirza Fatali Akhundov, one of the founders of Azerbaijani theatre. The humorous situations the characters find themselves in create a light and cheerful mood for the audience.

Tarverdi, a cowardly man from a wealthy family; the beautiful Parzad, whom he wishes to marry; Bayram, who loves her deeply and is ready to die for her sake; Zalkha, who devises countless schemes to make a profit, and her husband Namaz; the traveler Franz Fox, his companion Maria Adamovna, and many others become involved in a series of extremely funny stage situations.

Two additional characters — a Bear and a Monkey — add special color to the performance. In the tricks and games people play on one another, these animals also have their own role to play.

With its beautiful music and costumes, the performance allows the audience to relax, laugh heartily, and reflect on the author’s thoughtful and intelligent idea.
