Ye (Kanye West) – the American rapper and producer, born Kanye Omari West on 8 June 1977 in Atlanta, was raised primarily in Chicago. He initially studied painting at the American Academy of Art before transferring to Chicago State University as an English major, but left college to pursue music professionally. Before establishing himself as a recording artist, West built his reputation as a producer, with his contributions to Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint” marking a major breakthrough in his career. His early production became known for manipulating and accelerating soul samples, an approach central to his 2004 debut album “The College Dropout”, which earned him his first Grammy Awards. On “Late Registration” and “Graduation”, he expanded hip-hop through orchestral arrangements, electronic influences and arena-scale production, while “Gold Digger” and “Stronger” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. His 2008 album “808s & Heartbreak”, shaped by Auto-Tune, synthesizers and Roland TR-808 rhythms, became an important influence on melodic rap and contemporary alternative R&B. Later albums including “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”, “Yeezus”, “The Life of Pablo”, “Jesus Is King” and “Donda” demonstrated his continued movement between hip-hop, industrial music, electronic production and gospel. According to the Recording Academy’s current figures, Ye has received 24 Grammy Awards from 76 nominations. After legally changing his name to Ye in 2021, he released the album “Bully” in 2026 and returned to the American stage with a large-scale performance at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
